Welcome back to Last Week in Fantasy! The season is hitting its stride, and clear trends are beginning to emerge. The biggest story of the week was the utter dominance of the Florida Panthers, who landed four players in our top performers section after an offensive explosion. We also saw a glimpse of the future with a rookie making a massive impact. This week, we'll dive into who's hot, who's not, which players are due for a correction, and how you can use next week's schedule to your advantage. Let's get to it and find you an edge in your league.

Top Performers

It was Florida's world, and we were all just living in it. The Panthers were an offensive juggernaut, with their top power-play unit running wild and placing four members on this week's list of top performers. Not to be outdone, Connor McDavid reminded everyone of his otherworldly talent with a 10-point week in just three games. We also saw a few other stars and one very special rookie put up huge numbers. These are the players who single-handedly won fantasy matchups for their managers last week, delivering elite production across the board and setting a blistering pace to start the season.

Heating Up

These players have caught fire, producing at an elite clip over the last couple of weeks. Riding a hot streak can be a major boost to your fantasy team, but it's crucial to assess whether it's a sustainable new level of performance or just a temporary heater. Some of these players may have carved out larger roles on their teams, while others are simply getting the bounces. For now, they are all excellent starts in your lineup, and some may still be available on the waiver wire. It's time to strike while the iron is hot with these skaters.

Cooling Off

Every player goes through slumps, but these skaters have been particularly quiet lately. For stars like Crosby and Malkin, it's a time for patience, as their track records suggest a turnaround is coming. For others, a cold streak could be a sign of a reduced role or a lingering injury. It might be time to move some of these players to your bench until they show signs of life. For managers in other leagues, this could present a buy-low opportunity on a premier talent who is simply snakebitten. Let's look at who is cooling off.

Banger Giants

In leagues that count hits, blocks, and penalty minutes, these players are worth their weight in gold. Banger Giants are the physical forces who can win you multiple categories in a single week. Some, like Will Cuylle, are starting to add some scoring to their resume, making them even more valuable. Others, like Jeremy Lauzon, are pure specialists who excel at providing the grit your team needs. Whether they are bruising defensemen or agitating forwards, these players bring an element of toughness that is essential for any well-rounded fantasy squad in a banger format.

Regression Watch

One of the sharpest tools in a fantasy manager's arsenal is understanding regression. Players with an unsustainably high shooting percentage are likely to see their goal-scoring pace slow down, making them potential 'sell-high' candidates. Conversely, skilled players with a low shooting percentage are prime 'buy-low' targets, as they are due for some positive regression. The pucks will eventually start going in for them. Let's examine this season's most prominent regression candidates and see who you should be targeting in trades or looking to move on from at peak value.

Podkolzin is scoring on an incredible 31.8% of his shots, a massive jump from his 13.7% last season. While he's playing great, this shooting pace is unsustainable. Expect the goal-scoring to cool off, but he should still provide good value. Now is the time to sell high.

Lafrenière's breakout is real, but his 31.8% shooting percentage is not. That's more than double his 14.6% mark from last season. He's a great player, but he won't maintain this torrid goal-scoring pace. Some negative regression is coming, making him a sell-high candidate.

Even for an elite scorer like Kaprizov, a 32.3% shooting percentage is due for a correction. It's almost double his 16.7% from last season. He'll continue to be a fantasy star, but managers should anticipate his goal rate to come back down to a more sustainable, albeit still elite, level.

Goalie Report

Goaltending can be the most volatile position in fantasy hockey, making it crucial to stay on top of recent trends. This week, we saw some elite netminders like Ilya Sorokin continue their steady dominance, while a few others like Dan Vladar had surprisingly strong weeks, potentially earning more starts. On the flip side, several goalies struggled mightily, posting ugly ratios that torpedoed their fantasy managers' matchups. We'll break down the best and worst of the week and look ahead to their schedules to help you make the right start/sit decisions.

Line Moves

A player's value can skyrocket or plummet with a simple line change. Getting promoted to a top-six role or, even better, the top power-play unit, provides a massive boost in opportunity. This week, we saw a couple of forwards in Minnesota get a bump up the lineup. We also need to highlight the players who are driving fantasy value through their power-play production. Florida's top unit was historically good, with four members making this list, alongside a rookie who is already quarterbacking his team's man advantage. These are the trends that can define a fantasy season.
